I’ve been thinking about how it’s hard to know what’s happening in a given week without going through every newsletter I’ve ever sent.
So, I’m going to be making this section a regular emails that releases on Sundays and focuses just on shows playing this week, and on Wednesdays, you can expect the regular stuff (along with more shows!).
I’ll also add tracks for the artists that make me want to go to the show, to give you a little tease of what you might miss out on.
Thursday, January 23rd
$8-$10 | Gustaf, Yaasss, Corbu, GESSERIT, Avishag Cohen Rodrigues @ Rubulad
Gustaf will be playing fresh off a residency at Baby’s All Right (one more show on 1/21) and are seriously not to be missed. Also, Yaasss are playing, and both bands really know how to put on a show!
Friday, January 24th
$10-$15 | Frank and The Hurricanes, Palberta, Greem Jellyfish, Grout, Sweet Baby Jesus, Poncili Creacion, Knife Wife @ Rubulad
Knife Wife are a DC-based band and to my knowledge, this is one of their first shows in NYC! I also wrote about them in my first newsletter, so clearly I’m a fan.
Saturday, January 25th
$10–$12 | Sweet Static 4 Year Anniversary w/ Pop. 1280, Public Practice, Weeping Icon @ Trans-Pecos ~ all ages
Sweet Static is a media outlet that covers rock artists in underground scenes all around the world, and for their anniversary they are putting on a show!
Free | Dream Crusher, Deli Girls, Bitchney Boys Fellowship, Black Ergot @ Rodrigue’s Coffee House ~ all ages
A bit biased because Rodrigue’s is a student-run coffeeshop/venue on Fordham University’s Bronx campus and I’m a Fordham student, but the venue regularly gets about-to-break talent, and this lineup is no exception. Also a cool chance to see some student bands!
$5-10 | Long Neck, American Poetry Club, Beach Bod, Zuzia @ Kirby’s Castle
The first official show for the new DIY space and arts house venue! I’m looking forward to this show because the organizers really seem committed to providing a safer space for queer people and people of color.
Let me know how this format works for you! And if you end up going to one of these shows let me know! I’d love to hear how it went and what you thought. Also, stay tuned for the regular newsletter for even more!
